What is an accessibility statement and why should you include one in your syllabus? By explicitly stating up front how you have built accessibility into your course, your accessibility statement can reduce anxiety, boost confidence, and make students feel more supported from day one! In this workshop, we'll review and discuss a list of accessibility strategies that you can implement in your teaching and assessment, and include in your accessibility statement. Do you provide lecture notes or presentation slides, or let students ask questions in multiple ways? These are examples of accessibility supports that students want to know about, and would be a welcome part of your syllabus. By the end of the workshop you'll recognize how you're already supporting student accessibility, discover new strategies to try, and leave with a draft statement ready for your syllabus that will share your commitment to accessibility with your students.
This activity meets State PD Guidelines A, B, & C; ARC Strategic Goal 1 Students First and Goal 3 Exemplary Teaching, Learning, and Working Environment; ARC Professional Development Competencies: Equity-minded Service, Effective Communication, and Technology Proficiency. Attendance at this professional development activity is limited to LRCCD employees and invited participants.
