Facilitated by: Victor Zarate, Veronica Lopez, Daniel Slutsky, Andréa Pantoja Garvey, and Alisa Shubb
Our first hour will start with Victor Zarate, Physics instructor, convening a panel of Senate Leaders and Senators, both current and former, to engage in a discussion about their approach to their respective roles, what they knew, what they wish they knew, and if they would do anything differently. Plus, hear from your Vice President, Daniel Slutsky, about tools from different divisions for recruiting Senator positions (FT/PT) and prioritizing diverse representation.
Your attendance is requested for the second part of an engaging and interactive approach to the 411 of the Academic Senate 10+1. Your Academic Senate Secretary, Andréa Pantoja Garvey, and Past President Alisa Shubb will guide us through a gallery walk exercise using case studies to apply and discuss the different “Academic and professional matters” that make up our 10+1.
Then, the new Senate President, Veronica Lopez, will discuss how the work of Jeramy Wallace Minding the Obligation Gap in Community Colleges and Beyond - Peter Lang Verlag (Chapters 6 & 7) and Dr. Nolan Cabrera (Whiteness in the Ivory Tower) inspires their approach toward Senate Leadership. We will also give faculty time to network and discuss important issues affecting their academic and professional matters that center on ARC’s Senate values of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-Racism, and Accessibility (IDEAA).
. Attendance at this professional development activity is limited to LRCCD employees and invited participants.
