The goal of this workshop is to empower educators and presenters to find their funny and bring their most authentic selves into our professional teaching and learning spaces. Using humor in communication increases learning, focuses attention, relaxes audiences, and bridges interpersonal connection. When educators use humor in our classrooms, their content is more memorable and
students view their teacher as more relatable. We believe humor is a pathway to finding one’s voice and confidence and that EVERYONE is funny.
We cover basic comedy theory and share easy and specific humor strategies that presenters can incorporate into their presentations. We’ll also cover how to use humor consciously, considering the power dynamics that often exist in the classroom and the importance of using humor to empower, rather than disempower. This event meets State PD Guideline A; ARC Strategic Goals 1, 2, 3, 4; ARC Competencies: Equity-minded Service, Effective Communication. Attendance at this professional development activity is limited to LRCCD employees and invited participants.
