The purpose of this workshop is to bring play and laughter into our professional space. Academic institutions have cultural norms and expectations that reinforce imposter syndrome, especially for early-career individuals, students, and people of color. We advocate for humor as a pathway to finding one’s voice and confidence in this space. The core tenet of improv is “Yes, and...” – which is essentially to listen, agree, and build on each other’s ideas. As a community of staff and educators that work hard to serve the needs of our students, we invite a culture of connection and collaboration so we may work together more effectively and respectfully. During the workshop, we will be playing games, laughing, and having fun, all while connecting the skills from improv to professional skills to use in life and the workplace. This event meets State PD Guideline B; ARC Strategic Goals 1, 2, 3, 4; ARC Competencies: Equity-minded Service, Effective Communication, Organizational Adeptness, Leadership Development, Collaborative Innovation. Attendance at this professional development activity is limited to LRCCD employees and invited participants.
