Did you know that 20% of community college students report having a disability? At ARC, we strive to create an inclusive and engaging learning experience for all students. When you create an accessible course, you make it welcoming to, accessible to, and usable by everyone. How can you design your course to meet the needs of all your students?
Below is a list of actions needed to make your course accessible:
- Provide equivalent alt-text.
- Create logical document structure.
- Provide headers for data tables.
- Write links that make sense out of context.
- Caption or provide transcripts for media.
- Do not rely on color alone to convey meaning.
During this flex activity I will review the basic steps to increase accessibility for your students, such as the ones above, and discuss tools that can be used to support your accessibility work. Whether you are new to teaching or just looking for a refresher, this is the accessibility workshop for you!
