Vernal pools are temporary wetlands. They fill with water during the rainy season and dry out in spring, exhibiting a beautiful array of colorful wildflowers. Spectacular floral rings of white, pink, purple, yellow and orange flowers form from the edges of the pools to the interior. We will visit the Vernal Pool animals at Sacramento Splash and then head to the pools to see the beautiful flowers. We will cover plants, animals, history, culture, and conservation and also discuss the adaptations needed to survive these annual extremes of flood and drought.
We will honor that we will be on Indigenous Land and read the Indigenous Land Statement.
