This panel discussion will explore how STEM and Ethnic Studies/Chicanx Studies intersect to shape student identity development, particularly for historically marginalized student communities. Faculty from respective disciplines will share insights, research, and student-centered practices that affirm cultural identity while promoting academic persistence and belonging in STEM fields. Panelists will discuss case studies (own classroom), classroom strategies, and cross-disciplinary collaborations that support holistic student growth. Attendees will engage in a Q&A session to explore applications for their own teaching and student support practices. ARC colleagues are encouraged to attend to deepen their understanding of how identity (faculty and students’) impacts learning and retention, and to foster inclusive, equity-minded approaches across disciplines.
Attendance at this professional development activity is limited to LRCCD employees and invited participants.
